About Us

Dryad Cookery started with a forgotten spatula. On a camping trip in the Shenandoah Valley, we found ourselves trying to cook breakfast in a cast iron skillet with whatever was in the bin, and nothing worked. The cheap camp turner flexed and folded. The kitchen spatula we'd packed was wrong for the curve of the pan. Somewhere between the burnt eggs and the drive home, the idea took hold: somebody should make a real tool for this.

Nobody had, so we did. Our first spatulas launched on Kickstarter in 2020, cut from titanium. We loved that material, but over time the math stopped working, and we faced a choice: raise prices past what felt fair, cut corners somewhere it would matter, or find a better way. We found one closer to home. Today our blades are cut from 301 full-hard stainless steel in Virginia — the closest replacement to titanium we could find, just as tough, and fitted with the same G-10 handles built to outlast everything else in the drawer.

We're a family business in the literal sense. These tools got designed between workdays and nap times, and tested on a lot of dinners that didn't go as planned. We build them to be used hard and kept forever, because that's how we feel about cast iron itself: it's the pan you inherit, the one with forty years of breakfasts in the seasoning. The tools should be worthy of it.

If you're ever in the Valley, come by the shop. We're in the basement of Liberty St. Mercantile, across from the coffee shop. We'll talk cast iron as long as you'll let us.
